Come join us for a day of calligraphy at the Grotto! There’s nice big tables to practice on, great company, and a different fun activity every month. 

This time we are Celebrating the Mitchell Roundhand Nib.

 Morning Session 10:00 am-12:00 

Quiet writing - a peaceful time for serious scribes to do their thing, and everyone else to just work without making noise. Bring your own project. Hosted by Karina H. 

 Afternoon Session 1:00-2:00 pm

Celebrating the Mitchell Roundhand Nib  From prepping to using to cleaning, LL&L Coordinator Katrina M. will take you on a hands-on deep dive into the broad edged Mitchell Roundhand nib. Get ready for a seriously comprehensive look at this iconic calligraphy tool and what it can do. 

Slideshow: The history of the Mitchell nib and examples of calligraphy made with a Mitchell Roundhand.

Video Lessons:  Follow along as we learn:

• The many ways to prep a new nib (Video, Reggie Ezell)
• How to make your own reservoir for a Mitchell Roundhand nib with jewelry wire (Video, Reggie Ezell)
• Troubleshooting Ink Flow (Video,Calligraphy Lettering Arts Society) 
• Compare writing with gouache and writing with ink using your Mitchell nib.

After the videos, stay for open studio time and work on your own projects, see what others are up to or practice the skills you just learned.
